About the Thangka Series
Thangkas are traditional Tibetan Buddhist paintings on cotton or silk, depicting Buddhist deities, sacred mandalas, and spiritual scenes. In this groundbreaking series, master artisan 那十次 (Nashi) transforms these two-dimensional sacred paintings into three-dimensional leather relief sculptures.
Each thangka leather carving requires extraordinary precision and devotion. The artist hand-carves every detail—from the intricate jewelry and flowing robes to the serene facial expressions—then meticulously hand-colors each piece using traditional techniques. A single artwork can take 6 months to 3 years to complete, depending on complexity.
These works bridge ancient Buddhist artistry with contemporary sculptural techniques, creating tangible spiritual art that can be experienced in full dimensional depth. They represent not just artistic mastery, but also deep spiritual respect and understanding of Buddhist iconography.
